The Kings Park Psychiatric Center was known locally as the "Psych Center" and was formerly a well-known facility in New York. It closed in the 1990s when New York discharged its final patients (or, in some circumstances, moved them to another facility), capping its more than a century of operation.

Upon its founding, Kings Park was groundbreaking in an era when asylums were notorious for their extreme congestion and flagrant violations of human rights. As a "farm colony," Kings Park employed patients to cultivate crops and tend to livestock. The combination of physical labor and fresh air proved to be a remarkably successful method of therapy.
