3. Royal Gorge Bridge, Colorado

Rising 305 meters above the Arkansas River, the Royal Gorge Bridge is America’s highest suspension span. Completed in 1929, its wooden deck and steel cables challenge visitors with vertigo-inducing views through the planks. Today the surrounding park adds gondolas, zip lines, and a visitor center, while post-fire renovations in 2013 ensured the bridge’s continued strength and allure.
